Planet Organic Paleo Granola + Recipes!

June 3, 2016

If I could only eat one thing for the rest of my life I would probably pick this granola – the Sweet Greens flavour to be specific, though I would happily over-indulge in any one of the five flavours available.

Planet Organic have done it again… I’m addicted to just about all of their nut-butters, popcorn and raw cacoa covered berries, and now most definitely, their granola.

The granola is Paleo – grain free, high in protein, lower in carbohydrates and of course, free from refined sugars/anything processed. The granola is made up of whole nuts, seeds, chia and coconut – which means its packed with fibre and healthy fats, boosting metabolism and providing a perfect slow burning fuel.

Why opt for Paleo granola instead of the traditional grain based ones?

The concept of Paleo is basically to eat like our caveman ancestors did, meaning no grains, refined sugar, dairy, legumes, potatoes or alcohol. The benefit of eating this way is the increase of vitamins, minerals and antioxidants that you will end up consuming, plus it eliminates allergenic foods from the diet.

Superfood and low GI

The granola is crammed with superfoods, (Lucama, spirulina, chia seeds, cacao, goji berries…) making it nutrient-rich as well as ridiculously delicious. Not only is every ingredient health beneficial (and organic), but also the granola is low GI, meaning it releases energy more slowly, keeping you full and energised for a longer period, which is great for someone like me who is a serial snacker!

The granola comes in 5 flavours:

  • Chocolate Bliss
  • Super Berry
  • Caramel Apple Pie
  • Sweet Greens
  • Tropical Twist

I decided to experiment with some different ways to enjoy it for breakfast and dessert, so if you can’t decide if you want a muffin or some granola, have both! And if you can’t decide what flavour, I’ve made a recipe for all 5! Enjoy…

To make the muffins:

1 cup ground almonds
1 cup buckwheat flour
½ cup maple syrup
½ cup cashew milk
1 tbsp. coconut oil
1 tbsp. cinnamon
1 tbsp. chia seeds
1 tbsp. Lucama powder

Blend all of the ingredients and pour the mixture into a muffin tray (I like to grease with coconut oil before so they don’t stick!) Bake at 150degrees for 40 minutes.

To make the toppings, start by making a biiig batch of cashew cream as a base. Do this by soaking two cups of cashew nuts for 2+ hours, then draining and blending with ½ cup cashew milk and one tbsp. of maple syrup.

To make….

Chocolate Bliss
1 tbsp. cashew cream
1 tsp. date syrup
1 tsp. cocoa powder
1 tsp. coconut flour
