I’m feeling pretty smug about the fact that I’m being uncharacteristically organised this year – not in general but with my sports nutrition, that’s something though, right?
Every year I seem to try every new bar, gel and carb mix out there, stick with it for a few weeks… change again. There’s never a real ‘plan’ when in the race either, just to keep eating. This year I’m excited to be working with Project E2 – who literally have everything I need to fuel, hydrate and recover over the next few months on the long build up to Kona.
I plan on doing a dedicated YouTube video on my actual Kona nutrition plan, but I need chance for the long rides and brick sessions to start back up before I can test and perfect it.
So for right now, this is what I’m using to fuel my current training volume (you can watch my latest YouTube video to see what I’m up to here)…
I’m currently OBSESSED with Hydro powder in Summer Fruits flavour – you’re probably sick of seeing me put it on my Instagram stories, but I’m having it on the daily.
This is what they have to say about it and all the sciency parts that you may want to know:

I’m pretty much having this for every session at the moment… none of my sessions are quite long enough for their Energy powder – which I will mainly use for those longer rides/bricks/runs in a few months time.
I avoid using gels until the mileage is up too, so at the moment I’m just using their energy bars, which I like either pre session or mid-ride at the moment.

I can’t quite make up my mind which flavour out of the chocolate or banana that I like best… but I’m a fan. Most importantly for me, they’re not too sweet. I have a huge sweet tough, except when I’m training and can feel a little sick – these are just the right amount. I also really like the texture and know that it’s not going to go sloppy in hot conditions (soooo many experiences of mushed energy bar smeared across my face when trying to eat on a race!).
Okay so this next one is my favourite and will be great for after those really big sessions, but for now is serving me well for the shorter, spicy ones and also after tougher run sessions. I know SO many people struggle to eat after they train (I’m not one of those people except post-race), and it’s also good if you have to wait a while before getting some food in.
It’s the Recover powder in chocolate… it’s like the most delicious chocolate milk that you’ve ever tried, that also makes you feel great!

There’s a strawberry flavour too but it’s not for me, chocolate all the way!
